favorite podcasts of 2016

Bonjour! I haven’t written an actual blog post in OVER A YEAR! So expect lots of updates, catching up and giveaways coming in 2017. In the meantime, I just wanted to share with you all of the podcasts I’ve been listening to in 2016. I don’t really watch tv or movies, but the one thing I do listen to every single day is podcasts. And it seems like every single day, there’s a new one to add to my list. I have the “podcasts” app on my iphone so whenever I’m driving, doing the dishes or have a free minute, I plug in and tune the fuck out. Sometimes if I’m feeling really wild, I’ll play solitaire on my phone while I’m listening.

The Black Yoga Superstars Podcast- Haven’t actually listened to this one yet, but the title alone has me subscribed.

Girl on the Glo– I don’t think Spicy Mayo makes this anymore, but definitely worth checking out.

WE KNOW YOU CARE! (This is the link to listen on soundcloud but it’s also in iTunes). Feminism, pop culture, news, and thirst traps.

The Black Joy Mixtape Podcast– “2 petty as fuck black feminists… spit hot fire on politics, culture and worship anything black women have going on”.

The Black Mentor Podcast this is exactly what it sounds like

For Colored Nerds

20Something Podcast– 2 Black British 20-somethings living in London discuss Black culture, politics and entertainment.

UnStyled– “exploring the funny, inspiring, sometimes heartbreaking tales of life, work and love– as told through the things that we wear”.

The Lavendaire Lifestyle– lifestyle design for milennials

MMHMM, Girl– hilarious unabashed social commentary on all things pop culture, relationships, etc.

This Manic Mama– from the editors of Hip Mama zine. No new episodes since 2014 but if you’re a mama and need a little reassurance, this might be good to listen to.

Death, Sex & Money– “the big questions and hard choices that are often left out of polite conversation”

Poly in the Cities– exploring “non-monogamous relationships through honest and vulnerable conversations”. Even if you aren’t poly, which I’m not, this one is still HELLA GOOD. Sad that it just ended, but I haven’t listened to all the episodes yet.

The Style Success Podcast– “helping women increase confidence, credibility and developing their own personal style”. Still deciding if I need to be subscribed to this one. It’s not horrible, but it could be a little more polished.

The Longest Shortest Time– “the parenting show for everyone”. At least 3 of my mama friends have recommended this one to me. I wish it had less advertisements though.

Functioning Minimalist– short and sweet episodes on minimalism. A nice break from all the 45min+ episodes out there.

A Better Life w/Rachel Rofe– I talked about this one in an earlier post.

Make it Happen: A Podcast by Jen Carrington– “for curious, big-hearted, purpose-driven creative”.

wedontsitoncouches, podcast– This a podcast about travel. It’s hosted by a black woman. I don’t really like the name, and her perspective is that of a single, educated person with no kids. It’s good though, but it’s ok to sit on couches, in my opinion.

mater mea– “tells the stories and discusses the topics that matter most to black women at the intersection of career and family”

Black Girl in Om– “a bi-monthly conversation on all things wellness, self-care and self-love” Also #trapyoga

Oh Boy by Man Repeller– One on one conversations with women in the arts, tech and beyond about their work.

The Girl Gang Conversations– “interviews with inspiring women about the nitty-gritty about how they live with passion and purpose”.

Location Indie: Raw and Honest Location Independent Lifestyle Talk

Zero to Travel Podcast

Keep Your Daydream: Inspiring Stories of Travel and Adventure– What sets this podcast apart from other travel podcasts is that this one is focuses more on families traveling together. I feel happy and motivated after listening to this one.

Money Girl’s Quick and Dirty Tips for a Richer Life– Good for when you start freaking out about money, savings and student loans.

Dear Sugar-“the podcast fields all your questions– no matter how deep or dark– and offers radical empathy in return”

Pop Fashion– “fashion news, pop culture, and questions about business and creativity”. I have listened to every single episode of this one on the day it’s come out with few exceptions. It’s smart, funny and also discusses how fashion connects to the environment and economics.

The Budget Minded Traveler: Travel, Adventure, Lifestyle

The Lively Show– I wrote about this one before in a previous post.

Sistren Podcast– Three Black British women “talk the ting”.

HONORABLE MENTIONS (not subscribed yet, but interested)

Terrible, Thanks for Asking: Episode 4 on postpartum depression

The Receipts Podcast– “From relationships to situationships to everyday life experiences, you can expect unadulterated girl talk with no filter”.

Dark Zuckerberg Podcast– “The goal of the show is simple, to show the next generation of leaders that there’s not one path to success”.

Nerdette: Sept 15th Episode “Luvvie Ajayi is judging you”

Like I said, definitely a  lot of cool podcasts to listen to. Let me know if I missed one or what your favorite is.
