more makeup for less money

Bonjour! Today’s post is basically a ton of resources for makeup newbies on where to find affordable makeup to build their collection. This post is also for all of the people who tell me I have too much makeup, say they can’t afford a ton of makeup but want more of it or those who are trying to save money any way they can. Are you ready? It’s a ton of information.

Beauty Blogs

Nouveau Cheap is by far the best beauty blogger I’ve come across so far. She posts all the sales from the major drug stores every week, alerts you to when there are sales and reviews products. This is pretty much your #1 resource. I check her site daily, but be warned that you will want to buy everything.

BH Cosmetics
is where you can get these big 120 palettes of eyeshadow. They also have other kinds of makeup (blush, lippies, etc) and brushes. I’ve ordered from them before. Love them.

Coastal Scents
is very similar to BH Cosmetics and sell similar products for affordable products.

HauteLook is ran by Nordstrom. They have sales every week on different high end makeup brands (Stila, the Balm, Loracetc) but you have to keep checking back every week to keep track of what they’re selling. Once something goes on sale, buy it right then because the good stuff goes quickly.

Sephora and Ulta have sales all the time, so always check the sale section of their website. Sephora gives you free makeup on your birthday and allows you to accumulate points to earn products. The products are good, but you have to spend a ton of money to get them. Ulta has points too but I’m not sure how they work and they have a coupon in their fliers that come in the mail.

Cherry Culture sells a lot of NYX products and also has their own line of makeup out.

ELF (Eyeslipsface)
has really affordable makeup too but can be hit or miss.

This is not really an ideal way to acquire a lot of makeup because statistically you aren’t very likely to win them. But if you are following a beauty blogger or youtuber or someone on instagram and they are having a giveaway, it wouldn’t hurt to enter. But don’t go looking for giveaways. Just follow who you like and if they have a giveaway, cool, if they don’t oh well. Giveways are a bonus.

Now this will vary from state to state and country to country, but most drug stores are good place to buy makeup. Some stores have coupons, a reward system for spending a certain amount and/or points. At the end of the beauty aisles “end caps” in every store,  you will usually find makeup on sale.

Walmart exclusively carries Hard Candy.

Walgreens has the best selection of Wet n Wild.

Rite Aid has Jordana and LA Girl.

CVS has a machine in their store that spits out random coupons, but my local store is usually sold out of the stuff I want.

Target has the cartwheel app that you can download for coupons that you can scan at the register. Target also just got LA Colors at some of their stores too.

You can use manufacturers coupons at Dollar Tree.

Other stores: Family Dollar, 99cents only, Sally Beauty Supply, local beauty supply stores (where you buy your fake hair), grocery stores, etc.

Retail Stores

Forever21, H&M, Topshop, Ross, TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack and those types of stores all sell makeup.

If you follow your favorite brands on social media or via email you will be alerted to when sales are and/or given exclusive coupons. Before you toss your junk mail, check for coupons. The Sunday paper usually has coupons in it too (you can look up what coupons are in the paper online before you actually buy the paper too FYI). Coupons can also be printed online via coupon websites and store’s websites. Drugstores will sometimes have their weekly ad in the front of the store with coupons in them too. And you can “stack” a drug store coupon with a manufacturer coupon for more savings. It sounds like a lot of work but it really isn’t.

My husband always gets me a Sephora gift card for my birthday and Christmas. Last year’s office “secret santa” thing was quite the ordeal and you had to write down your favorite things on it and I put “makeup” and I actually did get makeup, which was awesome. There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for what you want. A lot of people hate shopping, make it easier for them.

And that’s it. I’m sure I probably missed something but that just proves to you that are so many places to get affordable makeup. Let me know in the comments which place you’ve tried or want to try and which brands are your favorite.

  1. Great tips! Visiting make-up aisles is so very fun. I can’t get enough of seeing all the color combos and textures. 🙂 Visiting from Sharefest. Happy weekend. XOXO, Elif
